In Bloomington, Indiana, at the southeast corner of the Monroe County Courthouse, a couple hundred people gathered Thursday at 5 p.m for the local edition of a demonstration that was organized nationally by moveon.org.
The “Nobody is Above the Law” demonstration was a response to events earlier in the week.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned at President Donald Trump’s request. Trump named Matthew Whitaker, the attorney general’s chief of staff, as acting attorney general. Sessions had earlier recused himself from oversight of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. That left oversight of Mueller’s work to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein.
Demonstrators called on Whitaker to recuse himself as Sessions had, to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
